CDG to Orly connection as a family: how long, RER or private driver?
The short answer
By public transport, RATP says getting from one airport to the other usually takes about 90 minutes, on the RER B then metro line 14, with a ticket at €14 per person: €56 for a family of four. With a private driver, the price is fixed and covers the whole car: €115 in a sedan for up to 3 travellers, €135 in a van for up to 7. We have no recorded driving time: it depends on traffic.
The ride is only one part of the connection. On top of it come getting off the first plane with your luggage, then the time Paris Aéroport advises before the second flight: 2 hours for a short-haul flight, 3 hours for a long-haul one.

The connection time, piece by piece
Between landing at Roissy and taking off from Orly, three stretches of time follow one another. The first, leaving the aircraft, clearing the checks and waiting at the baggage belt, changes from one flight to the next: nobody can put a number on it in advance. The second is the trip between the two airports. The third is the margin advised before your next flight. The table adds up what can be counted.
| Step | RER B then line 14 | Private driver |
|---|---|---|
| Leaving the plane, collecting bags | Cannot be counted in advance | Cannot be counted; 60 minutes of free waiting, flight tracked |
| Getting to Orly | About 90 minutes (RATP) | No recorded time, depends on traffic |
| Before the second flight | 2 h (short-haul) or 3 h (long-haul), according to Paris Aéroport | |
| Total, not counting leaving the plane | At least 3 h 30 (short-haul) or 4 h 30 (long-haul) | 2 h or 3 h, plus the drive |
Paris Aéroport's advice is not the hard limit. That limit is the check-in closing time, which each airline sets: from 40 minutes to 3 hours before take-off. You will find it on your booking; travelling with children, aim for the advice rather than the limit.
RER B then line 14: what the 90 minutes cover
The RER B runs from Roissy to central Paris in about 30 minutes; metro line 14 then takes you from the centre to Orly in 25 minutes. The rest of the 90 minutes is spent off the trains: walking from the terminal to the station, changing lines on foot, waiting for the next train.
A single ticket covers the whole journey: the "Paris Région ↔ Airports" ticket, at €14 full fare. It works from one airport to the other and stays valid for 2 hours, connections included. Each traveller needs one. A reduced fare of €7 exists; who qualifies is set out on the RATP page.
Two timetables matter for a late connection: the RER B runs from about 5 am to midnight, and Orly's terminals close between 00:30 and 03:30, according to RATP. Keep the terminals in mind too: Roissy has 3, Orly 4. Before you set off, note the one you land at and the one your next flight leaves from.
With children and suitcases, what changes
RATP's 90 minutes are a general figure. They say nothing about a pushchair to fold, suitcases to carry from one platform to another, or a child worn out by the flight. On public transport, the family handles the change between the two lines on its own. By car, everyone gets in once and gets out in front of the departure terminal.
The table compares the three options for two adults and two children, at full fare for public transport.
| Family of 4 | RER B then line 14 | E-Class sedan | V-Class van |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total price | €56 (4 × €14) | €115 | €135 |
| Seats | One per ticket | 3 travellers: too tight for 4 | Up to 7 travellers |
| Luggage | Carried by the family | 3 | 7 |
| Changes | One, on foot | None | None |
| Time | About 90 min (RATP) | Not recorded, depends on traffic | |
| Child seat | Not applicable | Included, fitted by the driver | |
For four people the sedan is not enough: it has to be the van. Public transport remains far cheaper; what the van adds is no change of line, room for the suitcases, and seats suited to each child's age, fitted before you get in.
CDG to Orly with Precelya: what the price covers
The price is confirmed before the ride and does not move with the hour or the route. Your arriving flight is tracked: if it lands late, the pick-up moves with it, and 60 minutes of waiting cost nothing. The driver meets you with a name board; tolls, parking and the child seat are included.
What we do not publish is a driving time: between the two airports, it depends on traffic. The shorter the gap between your two flights, the more that matters, so put the time of your second flight and both terminals in your request. The page CDG to Orly private transfer describes the service in full.
