CDG taxi or private driver: what really differs
At Charles de Gaulle, the Paris taxi has one advantage nobody disputes: an official flat fare, low and the same at any hour. A private driver costs more for someone travelling alone. So the real question is when that difference is worth paying, and when it is not. Here are the figures, with their dates, and our view without hedging.
The short answer
- Taxi
- flat fare €56 Right Bank, €65 Left Bank; the cheapest choice for one to four travellers without children
- Private driver
- €105 by sedan, €125 by 7-seat van; child seat, name board and 60 minutes of waiting included
- The taxi wins
- alone or as a couple, heading for the Right Bank, with little luggage and no booking
- The private driver wins
- with children, with five or more, or when you want a price and a meeting arranged in advance
| Option | Right Bank | Left Bank |
|---|---|---|
| Taxi from the rank | €56 | €65 |
| Taxi booked ahead | €63 | €72 |
| E-Class sedan | €105 | €105 |
| V-Class van (7 seats) | €125 | €125 |

How much does a taxi cost between CDG and Paris?
Under the decree of 24 December 2025, the trip between Charles de Gaulle and Paris is charged at a flat fare: €56 for an address on the Right Bank, north of the Seine, and €65 for the Left Bank, south of it. The amount is the same at night. Two surcharges may be added: €4 when the taxi is ordered for straight away, €7 when it is booked in advance, which takes the fare to €63 or €72. From the fifth passenger, add €5.50 per person.
The flat fare only applies to Paris itself. To La Défense, Disneyland or Versailles, the meter runs, with a pick-up charge of €4.48 at most and a minimum fare of €8. At the airport, taxis wait in areas set aside for them: you can take one without having booked anything.
And a private driver for the same trip?
Our price is fixed too, but it makes no distinction between the two banks: €105 for an E-Class sedan seating three, €125 for a V-Class van seating seven, whatever the address in Paris. It does not rise at night and carries no booking surcharge. The difference lies in what is included: your flight is tracked, the driver waits 60 minutes after landing with the passenger's name on a board, and brings the child seats and fits them. The trip is described terminal by terminal on our CDG ↔ Paris private transfer page.
When the taxi is the better choice
You are travelling alone or as a couple, one suitcase each, to a hotel on the Right Bank: take a taxi. At €56 it costs a good deal less than our sedan, it leaves without a booking and the price will not change on the way. Even for three or four adults with no children and no extra luggage, the flat fare stays ahead. We would rather say so: a fixed price is only worth paying if it gives you something the taxi flat fare does not.
When a private driver is worth it
With children. In France a child must travel in a suitable restraint up to the age of 10, but Article R412-2 of the Highway Code exempts children carried in a taxi from that rule: a taxi therefore has no need to carry a seat. With us, one is supplied to suit the child's age and fitted by the driver, at no extra cost.
For five, six or seven. Beyond four passengers, the taxi charges for each extra person, and we could not verify that a 7-seat taxi is available at the flat fare. Two taxis come to €112 for a Right Bank address, €130 for a Left Bank one; our V-Class van costs €125 for 7 passengers and 7 bags, in a single vehicle. The model is guaranteed: see our 7-seater van with driver page.
When you want to be met. A private driver may only work on a booking. That is a constraint for the driver and an advantage for you: someone knows your flight, follows any delay and waits for you at the exit, instead of leaving you to look for the taxi rank after a long flight.

Taxi or private driver at CDG: your questions
How much is a taxi from Charles de Gaulle to Paris?
It is a regulated flat fare, the same at any hour: in 2026, €56 for a Right Bank address, €65 for one on the Left Bank. Booked in advance, the taxi may add €7, which makes €63 or €72.
Is a taxi cheaper than a private driver from CDG?
Yes, for a simple trip with up to four passengers: €56 or €65 against €105 for our E-Class sedan. The gap narrows sharply from five travellers, when one taxi is no longer enough, and the comparison changes altogether with child seats, or if you want to be met by name at a price booked ahead.
Taxi or private hire car at CDG: what is the difference for a traveller?
Only a taxi can pick you up without a booking, at the airport rank. A private hire car, which is what a private driver drives, may only work on a prior booking: in return, the driver is waiting for you on arrival, timed to your actual flight.
Do Paris taxis provide a child seat?
They are not required to. Article R412-2 of the French Highway Code exempts children carried in a taxi from the child-seat rule. With us, a seat suited to the child's age is supplied and fitted by the driver, at no extra cost.
There are six of us: one van or two taxis?
At the flat fare, two taxis cost €112 (Right Bank) or €130 (Left Bank). Our V-Class van, for seven passengers and seven bags, costs €125: close to the cost of two taxis, to be weighed against the two figures above, and everyone travels together.
Disneyland, Versailles, La Défense: does the taxi flat fare apply?
No. The decree's flat fares only cover trips between Paris and Charles de Gaulle or Orly. Anywhere else the taxi runs on the meter, and you only learn the final price when you arrive.
