Orly to Paris: metro line 14 or a private driver for a family of 4?
The short answer
For four people, metro line 14 costs €56 in tickets, €14 each, and reaches central Paris in 25 minutes; after that comes a connection (metro, RER or taxi) to your address, with the suitcases and the pushchair in hand. With a private driver, a family of four rides in the V-Class van, at €115 for the whole car, door to door, child seats fitted: the sedan, at €95, only seats 3 passengers.
The gap between four tickets and the van is €59. What it buys: nobody carrying bags through the corridors, a suitable seat for every child under 10, and 60 minutes of free waiting if the plane lands late.

Metro 14 from Orly, step by step
Orly has 4 terminals. The line 14 station, "Aéroport d'Orly", sits next to Orly 3; from the other terminals you walk there. The train then runs without a change into central Paris, in 25 minutes according to RATP.
The ticket you need is the Paris Région ↔ Airports ticket: €14 full fare, €7 reduced fare for travellers entitled to it. It covers line 14 or Orlyval to Orly from anywhere in Île-de-France, and stays valid for 2 hours, connections included. This page counts the full fare: four tickets, €56.
The metro leaves you at a station, not at your door. If your hotel or flat is not on line 14, you have to change: another metro line, the RER or a taxi. That is where the trip gets harder with two children: transfer corridors, sometimes stairs, a pushchair to fold or carry, and suitcases to keep an eye on in a carriage that fills up at each stop.
Metro 14, sedan or van: the comparison for four
The table sets out the three options for a family of four landing at Orly. The metro is paid per person, the car per vehicle: which is why the cheaper sedan is not an option once you are four.
| Option | Price for 4 | Seats | How far | Child seats | If the flight is late |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Metro 14 (4 tickets) | €56 | One per ticket | Central Paris in 25 min, then a connection (metro, RER or taxi) | Not applicable | You take the next train |
| Precelya, E-Class sedan | Not suitable: 3 passengers at most (€95 for up to 3) | 3 | Door to door | Included, fitted by the driver | Flight tracked, 60 min of free waiting |
| Precelya, V-Class van | €115 for the car | 7, with 7 bags | Door to door | Included, fitted by the driver | Flight tracked, 60 min of free waiting |
By road, the route planner gives 16 to 22 km and about 40 minutes between Orly and Paris, toll-free (indicative, depending on the address and traffic). The metro is quicker into the centre; the car goes all the way to the door, with no change.
What a private driver changes, compared with a taxi or an app
A private driver gives his time to your ride: he takes no ride before yours, prepares and cleans the car, tracks your flight and stands at arrivals holding your name, then helps with the luggage. If the plane lands an hour late, he is still there; if the delay stretches on, he stays or we replace him. The driving is calm and safe. These commitments are written here in black and white; a metered ride or an app estimate carries none of them.
For the price gap shown, you are buying peace of mind: a driver who has only you, a car that is ready, and nobody to look for on arrival.
Why a private driver rather than Uber, Bolt or a taxi: the full answer.
Why four travellers means the van
French road safety rules are plain: one person per seat. A baby takes a seat just like an adult, so a family of four is four passengers. The E-Class sedan carries 3: for four, you need the V-Class van, which takes up to 7 passengers and 7 bags, enough for the suitcases, the pushchair and the baby bag. If there are only three of you, the sedan will do.
In France, a suitable child restraint is compulsory in a car from birth to age 10. In the van, every child seat is included and fitted by the driver at no extra cost: just give each child's age when you ask for a price. The standards are explained on the page car seats in France: age and standards.
When the metro is the right choice
To be fair: for one or two adults without large suitcases, metro line 14 is hard to beat. Two tickets cost far less than the van, the ride into the centre is short, and the line is never stuck in traffic. If your hotel is a short walk from a line 14 station, there is not even a connection to make.
The car wins once the luggage piles up, when the children are small, when your address is far from the line, or when the flight lands late and nobody wants to work out the way. At four, the price per head also gets closer: the van is paid once for the whole family.
